This little boy was bitten by a snake around his nomadic home.  They came in on our team day 30 two days after he had been bitten and his whole leg was swollen and he was barely hanging in there. He was scared to because it was some of the first white people he had seen. He got zapped with and electric zapper that neutralizes the snake venom, and it is wonderful to know that he is still alive today. He ended up with and major infection in his toe but it is healing through medical care given by Krista. They are an Mbororo family. We went out and visited his home. They ended up killing a goat for us so we had plenty of goat meat and cows milk. it was a fun day where I could practice some of my language from my childhood as they are Fulani as well and speak a dialect of Fulfulde.

The first pic is of your kitchen equipment, then you can chop up the meat of the goat that you have just killed, cook it, then make some tea over the coals. The big gourd on the right in the next picture is used to store cows milk.

It was a fun day going out with Hannah with Krista and Karen and planting a peanut field for our friend. it was nice to help her out in this way and have fun as well as enjoy the green that is around from the rains. They plow the field with a horse and hand held blow and then we walk behind and put peanuts in.

A Day Checking out Hannah’s Field

This was a fun day to go out with Hannah and to see her fields and to get them ready for planting. It was a family affair with all the children coming out as well. It was a fun day to hang out with Hannah and to get to know her more and to chat. There is this beautiful water source created by the early rains that is on the edge of her fields. Hannah’s youngest two children enjoyed collected grasshoppers to later bring home and roast over coals when we got home. The grasshoppers are quite crunchy delicious.

A Trip to Kenya

My right hand started mucking up and needing surgery for carpel tunnel syndrome. I was disappointed after only being here in Chad for two months and was very unexpected. After looking into options of surgery in Chad and realizing it wasn’t possible in Chad. It meant leaving Chad which I didn’t want to do but knew it was best to have the surgery done. This meant a trip to Kenya for two weeks. I have enjoyed my time here and have made the most of it; I have enjoyed some cooler and even freezing weather, mountains and green grass. I might have also enjoyed a few Kenyan coffees. Surgery went well and my hand is healing. It has been amazing to see how everyone has helped in organising this trip for me, talking to surgeons, finding places for me to recover and just loving and supporting me. I felt very loved and support by my new friends and “family” over here. I have been amazingly taken care of. I am very thankful to many people for all they have done and all the support they have given. I praise and thank my heavenly Father for the comfort and peace that surrounded me during this time, and how He smoothly worked everything out. I am very excited though to be heading back in a few hours’ time to Chad. I am excited to be heading home and looking forward to getting back into things. I just have to remember that it is only a week after surgery and my hand still needs to take it a bit easy.
